What an applicant tracking system does with your resume
An ATS turns your file into plain text and fields: name, contact details, job titles, employers, dates and skills. Recruiters then search and filter those fields. If a two-column layout, a table or an icon font scrambles the text, your experience can end up in the wrong field or disappear from a search.
The system rarely rejects anyone on its own. The real risk is quieter: a recruiter searches for a skill you have, and your resume doesn't come up because the word was never read.
